F.A.Q
What are your rates for contractors? That depends entirely on the qualifications of the contractor, the work he/she is expected to perform and the length of the term Are all of your contractors experts? Ubique has a core group of dedicated, professional contractors who are continuously upgrading their skills in the areas of Engineering and SOLIDWORKS®. They have a very diverse background in the engineering field and can approach a problem from strength. Customers sometimes require other ranges of engineering and software skills, sometimes down to entry-level. We maintain contact with the diverse and flexible people who have the skills demanded by our discerning clientele. Why is it that I have not been able to find a job in the engineering field, despite having a foreign engineering degree and even experience? I have sent out hundreds of resumes. The company that first hires you is going to lose money for the first 4-6 months. You will have to learn for example; Canadian technical terms, English fractions, perhaps engineering software and even just the new office environment you will find yourself in. Not only that, but you will surely slow down the other engineers around you because they will be answering your questions and fixing the mistakes you will make as a natural course while you 'get up to speed' with Canadian engineering practices. That costs companies a lot of money. After this time you will likely make a great employee and then some other company inevitably will come along and say, "Oh, you worked for 6 months and they liked you? Great, we'll hire you! " The company loses their 6-month investment. The end result of all this is that there is an industry-wide perception that the first company to hire a foreign-trained engineer will always lose. Companies only want to hire you after your first experience. To bridge this gap, Ubique now conducts a successful Cad Mentoring Program for SOLIDWORKS®for those who have engineering credentials and have taken a basic SOLIDWORKS® course. What geographical area do you serve? We serve mainly the Lower Mainland, but we also send contractors out of province for specialized jobs. Who do I contact to see about retaining a contractor? You can fill out the Contact Form, efficiently detailing your technical needs and your contact information. Your request will be attended to immediately. Alternatively, you can contact us directly. I am interested in being a contractor for Ubique. How do I apply? Simply fill out the Application Form and we will reply to you right away. You can also contact us directly for any other questions you may have. What is a Piping Designer? A Piping Draftsman is how one usually gets started - this person prepares manufacturing (spooling) drawings. With experience and aptitude, one can become a Piping Designer - someone who is heavily relied upon by the Piping Engineer (a Professional Engineer) to do the bulk of the technical work in Piping. The Piping Designer will engage in drawings, checking, design, 3D CAD and gathering information on-site. All of these skills are heavily required by industry for the forseeable future. |
